The FlutterBot is an educational robot.  The FlutterBot and accompanying text are designed to teach introductory electronics and programming.  No experience is needed and no soldering is required.  This kit will teach you everything you need to know to build and program your own smart robot.  Robots are fun because they do exactly what you tell them to do.  For the same reason they are great teaching tools for computer programming.  It is much more fun to set your robot down on the floor and see it running around executing your program than to sit in front of a computer screen watching numbers scroll by.

Hi, I'm George Albercook Ph.D..  My students Call me Dr.G.  and I teach science and technology classes.  I was looking for a way to teach electronics and microcontroller programming to my junior high and high school students.  I couldn't find anything I liked so I started playing around and came up with a prototype of the FlutterBot.  My students loved it and it worked! They were learning electronics and C.  They started asking me for instructions and parts so I put together these kits.

I designed the FlutterBot for the hobbyist with no experience and for high school age students to do on their own.  Junior high/middle school students may need a knowledgeable adult near by if they get stuck. College age students and those with more experience may want to also consider the book and kit available from SmileyMicros

What is included in the FlutterBot kit:

    • Free complete open source C/C++ compiler.
    • All the parts needed to build the award winning FlutterBot robot
    • The AVR Butterfly (our robot brain)
    • All the electronic components to interface the brain to the robot
    • An 80 page instruction manual
    • Access to tech support and a user forum
